Acerca del libro
In 1975, at 20-something, John, a New Zealander, set out to travel: first to UK and Europe via Hong Kong and Israel; later to the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc; East and West Berlin; to Jimmy Carter’s America and to Mexico; to Thatcher’s Britain, Tyneside and Durham; Ceausescu's Romania; Spain under Franco, Portugal in revolution; Denmark, Greece and Morocco. At every stop John sent postcards and letters home to expectant parents. The postcards, their messages, images and even stamps, are reproduced – a window on a past life in a different world.

History teaching was my job but also my passion. There is no better way of learning history than traveling to the site where it happened. As a teacher at a Bangkok international school for 20 years I was very fortunate to be so close to some of history's great sites, and even more fortunate that the wonderful students were keen to take history trips and make them so enjoyable. Since retirement I have had the great privilege of researching and writing family history and meeting some amazing people who are a part of my wider family.
