Chilli Rempah Recipes by Lily Lee
7 in x 7 in, 34 pages, square format, softback
I have been egging (?) my mum to write down her fantastic Nyonya recipes for ages, and she relented a few months ago to put to print her experience of these simple recipes learned from her mother and aunts back in a time when Men were Men, and a kuali and ladle was pretty much all you need (and have) to cook with, growing up in the 40's and 50's in a Nyonya household in Malaysia.
All 9 recipes are based on the magic ingredient, the 'rempah' which is a chilli based sauce, including Nyonya Laksa, Assam Chicken Curry, Fish Head Curry and my fav, Otak Otak. Some strange buah keluaks also make an appearance.
Photos and tastings were by ME! Shall I get her to do another?
