Acerca del libro
An important collection of memoirs contributed by the descendants of Polish soldiers in Scotland. These men fought in the Polish Army under British command during WW2, many having been forcibly taken from their families in Poland as young teenagers and forced into slave labour in Germany before being conscripted into the German army. When captured and taken as POWs to England they were given the opportunity to fight for the allies. At the end of the war, these soldiers were unable to return to their loved ones as Poland fell under communist rule.
The author, photographer Jennie Milne, is the granddaughter of Stanislaw Lis, a Polish Officer and member of the Polish government in exile in London. His epitaph 'He never lived to see again his beloved country' and the displacement both her grandparents experienced is the motivation behind her work.
