A complete illustrated history of the Chicago and North Western Railway branch line between Galena, IL and Montfort Junction, WI from its charter as the narrow gauge Galena and Southern Wisconsin Railroad until abandonment in 1939. Contemporary Galena newspaper articles, rare railroad reports and time tables and historic photographs are provided. The reader is transported along its length both chronologically and geographically. Few more interesting rail lines existed within the noted Driftless Area of the Mississippi valley.
