The years following his repatriation to England at the end of the war and his resolve to stay within travelling distance of his daughter, the young "Nadine", makes for fascinating reading. The second part of the book, intertwines the young Nadine's life with that of her father as through the years, they both make decisions which affect the other. It is the defiant passion of this young lady as she travels through her life to fulfil a magnificent ambition to help those who were inflicted with the same deformity which affected her mother and herself which creates a powerful and deeply moving story.

Edward James Burton was born in Ottawa and served as a Flight Engineer in the RCAF and subsequent CF for approximately 25 years. His tour of duty saw him flying on Lancasters with 408, Photographic Sqd., the North Star Aircraft with 426 and 437 Sqds., and on the magnificent Yukon Aircraft with 437 Sqd. and 412 the VIP Sqd., based in Ottawa. He obtained his civilian pilots license in 1952 and accumulated multi hours on numerous aircraft equipped with wheels, skiis and floats. After retiring from the CF and being Commissioned from the ranks he spent many years as an Officer with the Air Cadet League of Canada. He ultimately worked in Transport Canada with the Aviation Safety Bureau and was a core member when that group was formed into the Aviation Safety Board, a Crown Corporation the forerunner of the Transportation Safety Board. He and his wife, Fran, reside in the Ottawa area.
