Acerca del libro
For this book, I have taken designs created earlier for a series of unique kimono greeting cards, some of which were published by kimono designs. I focus on the basic motifs and imagery that adorn the back panel of the greeting card. Each kimono is accompanied by a short poem in tanka form that evokes the inspiration behind, or reflections on, its visual design. These five-liners can be thought of as short free-form narratives comprised of a twenty-one syllable sequence that explores an idea, captures a thought, unravels a fold stuck in space and time. In some cases, tanka poems are strung together.
It is my hope that these words and images will inspire you to pause and further reflect upon the themes that are evoked by these simple, yet intricate, objects of attire.
