Acerca del libro
This book is a partial survey of southern Alberta’s remaining wooden grain elevators. Many of these elevators will be gone or demolished within the next 10 years due to insurance, deferred maintenance or fire. At one time Alberta had hundreds of grain elevators. Today there are just over 200 remaining and the number declines annually. This is a book of black and white photographs of some of these "Prairie Sentinels" that were landmarks on the Alberta horizon and a cultural, social and commercial feature of daily life for many in Alberta. Many towns were known by their elevators and elevator rows. Today these legendary former elevator rows no longer exist in Alberta.
