Five weeks before our 37 Queen Street Open Studios, and I was investigating the affect of art on communities for my masters degree, it's fair to say a community was yet to form in the building. The question I wanted answered was could an art exhibition create a community? I put forward a proposal to curate an open exhibition which was accepted, and that was what I set out to do.
There was only one small problem, the exhibition was five weeks away, and I was away for a week of that month in a residency, I had curated a combined show the previous year, and had attended a curation course at Whitechapel Gallery during the interim, so I used my experience to plan the exhibition in the time available, focusing on only the essentials, and sharing the load where I could.
