Trail Mix Indiana came from the exploration and adventure that I wanted to take through the state. It wasn’t until this last year that I took it upon myself to start exploring the parks in Indiana. Not being an Indiana native, I didn’t know where to start – whether it be the best place to visit, if somewhere was worth camping at for a night or two, or if a park would make for a great day trip instead. With this project I wanted to create a platform that answered those questions and more!
Trail Mix Indiana is a magazine inspired by a love of the outdoors and was created after a summer filled with traveling, hiking, camping, swimming, taking photos, writing, designing and more camping. The name Trail Mix was composed to emphasize the mix of trails in Indiana, while still being playful and welcoming. The project includes a 96 page magazine, a website, and other printed marketing materials.
The goal of Trail Mix is to inspire young adults to explore what their state has to offer through the use of design, illustration and photography. By creating feature articles for properties, readers are presented with a more engaging reading experience. I want people to look at my magazine and think “Wait, that’s in Indiana? I can do that here?” or “I didn’t know that’s only an hour from where I live.” Most importantly, I want people to feel inspired to visit the parks and spend some time outdoors in Indiana.
