Acerca del libro
Cuba. A nation sitting at a temporal cross roads. All but the last remnants of the United States blockade have been swept away by the Obama administration; diplomatic ties renewed. The country waits, poised in anticipation of a great financial renaissance, for better or worse. I arrived in Cuba with a simple, yet ambitious concept, to capture the essence of its greatest city before the inevitable wave of change. So where is that essence to be found and where will the changes begin? I feel that Havana will witness the coming changes first. There, in that beautiful sprawl, the most powerful aspects of Cuba are plain to see; in the faces and character of its people, and in its most stalwart of residents - their automobiles. As the inevitable tide of unhindered tourism hits, will the accompanying wave of camera toting tourists and their dollars change those smiling faces? Will those iconic cars be shipped off to collectors in America or further afield, making way for bland, characterless modernity and in-built obsolescence?
