“Oliver’s Travels: Volume 1: Brussels & Antwerp, Belgium,” is a photobook about Belgium’s two largest cities. Brussels, the captial of Belgium, also considered to be the capital of Europe. Brussels is Belgium’s largest city, and is the headquarters for both the European Union (EU), the Notth Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). Charles of Lorraine founded what would become Brussels in 979 AD. The city has a population of 1.2 million and primary languages are French and Flemish. The architecture in Brussels spans from the medieval to the post modern era.



Antwerp, is Belgium’s second largest city, with a population of 510,610, and is also called the “Diamond Capitol of the World”. Antwerp is the capital of the Antwerp province of Belgium. Founded in 1510, it is the home of Belgium,s largest Church, the Cathedral of Our Lady, begun in the 14th century and finished in 1518. Antwerp is also the location of the Plantin-Moretus Museum. The printing company was founded in the 16th century by Christophe Plantin. In 2002 the museum was nominated as UNESCO World Heritage Site and in 2005 was inscribed onto the World Heritage list. Flemish is the primary language spoken in the region



Growing up in Portland, Oregon, though not one of the world’s largest cities, I have always had an appreciation for cities and their architecture. I hope Oliver’s Travels: Volume 1: Brussels & Antwerp, Belgium will motivate you to travel there. They are two of Western Europe’s most beautiful cities.
