Acerca del libro
The Normandy region of France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline, including the dramatically evocative World War II landing beaches, with a verdant interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns, and historic landmarks such as the cities of Caen, Bayeux St LO and Mortain. The largest military landing in history took place in Normandy on June 6, 1944. Monuments, museums, bunkers and cemeteries are a living commemoration to the Battle of Normandy. In the following pages I have compiled some of my best photographic images, over eight trips to this region and created a unique photo book. Of all the areas in Normandy, Mortain is very special to me because this is where the 30th Infantry Division men battled and many of them laid down their lives to hold Mortain's Hill 314 from the Nazi Germany control. Many lives were lost, but in the end after five days of fighting the 30th Infantry was successful and held there positions. During this time my father, Herbert Henry Miller was taken prisoner by Nazi Germany during the late evening hours of August 6, 1944 and remained a prisoner of Nazi Germany until the war ended.
