Acerca del libro
This is the story of an ordinary country girl who lived through very un-ordinary times. As a child,
she lived a rural existence with no indoor plumbing when water was carried by a bucket from a
well, transportation was by horse and wagon, and lighting was with kerosene lamps.
The year she was born, nearly 95% of the population lived on small farms, and by the time
she was married with children, the population had almost completely moved from an agrarian
existence to living in cities and suburbs.
She lived through the great depression, and a world war, saw nuclear weapons used for the
first time, the advent of jet aircraft, the cultural upheaval of the 60s, the assassination of a president,
a man walking on the moon, and the rise of the information revolution.
This is the story of how the United States became a modern nation, told through the eyes of a
ordinary woman
