Acerca del libro
The Deanshaven Story chronicles the many escapades of adventurous British entrepreneur, R.T. Deane, who built a home on Kootenay Lake in the West Kootenay region of British Columbia in 1912, naming it Deanshaven. In between serving as a naval officer in two world wars, he started a land development company, a floating hotel, a mine, and a sawmill at Deanshaven plus a gold mine in the Arizona desert. Along the way, he also had two marriages and nine children. Woven into the narrative of his often harebrained schemes is a mélange of nostalgic photos, family anecdotes, archival documents, love letters and the author's personal reflections. The narrative spans 100 years, with stories of second, third, and fourth generation Deane descendants who have lived on the family property at various times, propelled by a love of the land and its history. The land itself also becomes a character in the story, as it too changes along with the people who inhabit it.
