Acerca del libro
"Darfur at Our Doorstep" is the image catalog to an exhibition of gouache drawings on paper by visual artist Kenny Cole. Portland, Maine is home to the largest community of refugees from the beleaguered Darfur region of the Sudan. Cole interviewed El Fadel Arbab, the community's activist and lead spokesperson, about his life growing up in Darfur and the odyssey that led to his arrival here in Maine. These drawings weave the hand rendered text of el Fadel's interview into Cole's invented acronyms, while text from various other sources are fitted in and around as a colorful array of amoeba-like puzzle pieces vying to tell the bigger story.

"Cole's highly graphic, deceptively "untutored" and loopy, folk art or cartoon style...brings a raw humor to the world's aches..."
