Garvin David was raised in the poorest section of Granada by his great-grandmother. While he enjoyed a great sense of independence early on, he also witnessed much violence on the streets. At 17 he had worked and saved enough to buy a visa to America in hopes of rekindling a relationship with the mother who left him at 5. Garvin arrived in New York with great hopes, just to find the violence he fled and not the relationship he craved. Garvin did, however, find a relationship with a woman that yielded him a son. He worked all day and ran the streets at night trying to support his new family. Soon, the trouble he had seen started to catch up with him,
Garvin, thinking of his son’s future and his own absent father, sought another new beginning in Southwest Florida. His son’s mother refused to go and didn’t want their son to stay, so the cycle had started to repeat itself.
Now in an unfamiliar environment Garvin started his new phase in life as a single parent, but his past started creeping up on him through his dreams. The violent images and the chauvinistic way he treated women were affecting his conscious and he began to write. He found a new love interest but after a few years their marriage dissolved.
Today, Garvin finds himself a straight laced single parent of two working through the emotionally abusive cycle he has lived all-the-while looking for the love he has been missing. “The Dog in Me” is a collection of works chronicling that journey.
