Acerca del libro
All of the photographs in this series were taken at various locations within Hunters Point Shipyard beginning in the spring of 2010. The textures, colors, and vivid contrasts present in the richly layered strata of industrial and marine decay at the shipyard are fascinating, and provide an endless palette for artistic experimentation and improvisation. All of the photographs are made on site, with no direct manipulation of the subject material at hand, with a DSLR camera. On the digital palette, I manipulate colors, hues, saturation, contrast, and exposure to create the final photographs.
The photos reveal both the beauty of these strictly aesthetic elements, and at the same time carry a historical weight and a narrative of this unique and fascinating place. This environment, once home to an intense, bustling, bristling industrial machine, now lies silent and largely vacant, slowly disintegrating as it awaits transformation into its next life. I hope the photographs capture a sense of that place and history, and can function as a record of this unique moment in the Shipyard’s history.

Redwood City, CA
I have had a studio in Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco since 1998. While primarily a sculptor, I began photographing the ruins of the shipyard in 2010, and have continued to do so as opportunities present themselves. I exhibit my work regularly in Open Studios at the shipyard twice yearly. I live in Redwood City and spent twenty years as an art teacher in the Palo Alto Unified School District.
