Acerca del libro
The book À la Découverte des Fresques du Tassili (1958) by Henri Lhote has inspired many to go and witness first hand the rock art treasures of Sahara.
Likewise, the Finnish edition, Saharan kalliopiirrokset - 10000-vuotisen kulttuurin jäljillä (Kustannusosakeyhtiö Tammi, 1959), was the source of our inspiration to start planning a trip to Tassili n'Ajjer in early 2009.
Now, over 50 years after the publishing of Lhote's book we can present a completely new, colorful aspect of that striking imagery.
Late October 2009 the trip of five brave Finnish rock art researchers to Tassili n'Ajjer of Algeria came true.
The air route Helsinki-Paris-Djanet brings travellers right to the edge of the rock art zone, but you have to go up 700 meters onto a plateau to see the ancient works of art.
This unbelievable moonscape was the canvas of prehistoric people as they painted and etched pictures, which are among the oldest and most beautiful in the world.
The decision to publish an illustrated work of what they saw and experienced was made by the group there and then while admiring the images.
Come with us on a virtual two-and-a-half week walk of 200 kilometers on the Plateau of the Rivers, Tassili n'Ajjer.
Regards,
Agaouad, Aïcha, Bokheni, Fadimata
and Oucha
