Acerca del libro
Presented as a collection, this catalog of 19th and very early 20th Century Tibetan carpets and textiles reflects one aspect of Thomas Murray’s connoisseurship in the arts of Asia developed over a lifetime. With an art appreciation extending from the high Himalayas to the Indonesian
archipelago, and from early Indian trade cloths to bast fiber country costumes from Japan, Thomas Murray’s love affair with Asian art has evolved and flourished throughout his long career.
Though not a focused collection in a conventional sense, we nonetheless encounter a high degree of artistry featured throughout the group. From a colorful early design type with a single medallion to the abstract art appeal of the all-indigo blue field rug, the expertise of the Tibetan dyer and weaver is here revealed in these.
