Acerca del libro
Predominantly landscapes, these images were selected for their striking presence in grayscale. The images encompass a range of locations and subjects.
In a luminous world, light and shadow define structure, create depth and reveal texture. Stripped of the distracting camoflage of color, tone-rich images become, with deceptive simplicity, more evocative, more visceral. Such images initially present large scale visual impact, yet texture and small details reward closer inspection.
These images were captured from 2010 through 2023 during my journeys around California, Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Ireland and France.

I began a lifelong journey in photography in 1968 with the gift of a Kodak Instamatic 300 from my grandmother. I have carried a camera more or less everywhere ever since. Starting around 2010 I set out to learn how, as they say, to create images, versus take snapshots. For me, photography is a means for processing being present in the world. In my journeys I mostly wander, seeking novelty in places both new and familiar. I seek immersion in the landscape, observant and prepared, trusting that any place can be special.
