A transcription of a journal kept by Lawrence Johnson (1801-1860) during a trip to the British Isles and the Continent of Europe in 1847 with his young son Edward. Lawrence Johnson was born in Kingston-upon-Hull, England and emigrated to American as a young man. He developed a successful stereotyping and type foundry business in Philadelphia.
