This booklet presents a selection of collages I created from 2005 to 2010. Inspired by our globalised environment, I was intrigued by diverse languages, numeric systems, signs and symbols that coexist. When inventing imaginative typographic forms, I designed a system of classification and representation and named it Weltzeichen, or World Signs. The characters in this system are hybrid constructions of letters, signs and symbols that I built on a grid. For the first part of the project, I also produced analogue photographs that capture the sense of speed and movement by using slow shutter speeds and moving the camera.

In my artistic process, I combined and transformed the World Signs and photographs into a new communication system that could potentially convey more than knowledge. Initially, I experimented with layering and juxtaposing the World Signs font and the photographs as icons or sculptures, manipulating their size, shape, position and compositional arrangement.

In later development phases, I emphasised more on the forms of the symbols and their layout and expanded my photographic, typographic, and graphic techniques in the collages. The resulting pieces resonate with concepts, such as, time, space, culture, evolution, and movement. Claiming that the work is open to interpretation, I invite my audience to apply their decoding systems and create their narratives.
