In 2004, Cloud Gate, an immense outdoor public sculpture was installed in Millennium Park, a major destination in downtown Chicago for tourists and locals alike. According to Kapoor, Cloud Gate’s curved, oblong, polished-steel shape was inspired by liquid mercury. But most people call it by itsmore affectionate nickname, the Bean, for obvious reasons.
Its highly curved mirrored surface distorts and reflects the city skyline and just begs to be photographed.
As I had done in the first book, I manipulated photos I took of the Bean and created a series of densely patterned kaleidoscopic designs.
