Acerca del libro
This book was inspired by a dream that my daughter Bayleigh had last year in 2021. She woke up and said, “Dad, the moon is singing a lullaby to the stars!” I asked her if she could draw me a picture and she drew the moon that became the main character in the book. I told her when she told me about her dream that I thought we could create a book together. The thing about Bayleigh is that she has special needs and it’s very hard for her sometimes to get her ideas out. But I was listening and this book is the result.
So suppose the moon dreamed of being a star? How do you think she’d feel knowing she would not be able to be one? Would she realize how important her light was anyway? Would the moon still feel good enough about herself to shine her own light? In this story children are encouraged to imagine and then relate to the feeling of not being bright enough or good enough just like Little Moon.
The deeper message connects children to their own feelings of inadequacy realizing they have an advocate in this book that reinforces their own brightness in their own unique way. This is an excellent bedtime story because it reminds children how important a night light is. Even though a night light is small and doesn’t give off much light, it’s still brings comfort in the darkness. We can be, if we are ourselves, also a comfort for each other - in this world where things can feel pretty dark sometimes. Let your light shine. Don’t put it under a basket - one of the great spiritual teachers once taught. Be a night light for someone.
