Acerca del libro
Praised from all sides for their exemplary management of the health crisis, it is safe to say that Germans perceived the COVID-19 pandemic as way less threatening than we Italians did. All the more so, I was in for a surprise when, on a warm and sunny day of April 2020, I ventured through Berlin's city centre under lockdown and found there an unreal atmosphere.
At the latest when the lockdown kicked in, endangering whole sectors of the economy, and the restrictive measures made their way into our everyday lives, people were vigorously reminded of how fragile their existences, freedoms and privileges are.
And if the pandemic did hit different countries with varying degrees of intensity, the vacuum left behind - made of disbelief, uncertainty, disorientation - affected the whole world in the same manner.
The psychological space created by this pandemic, void and claustrophobic at the same time, is what I originally set off to explore. What I actually captured floating in this abstract space, is depicted in the photos that follow.
