Acerca del libro
After three years of extensive research, Terry Meinke created this book to document the histories of the 25 Redditch, UK area manufacturers associated with Avery needle cases. These companies either patented or manufactured stamped brass needle cases or had their name placed on one during the time period in which these items were produced, 1867-1897. Due to the number of Redditch companies involved, this book is divided into two volumes, with the companies listed in alphabetical order. Volume I contains Avery, Bartleet, Booker, Croft, English, Gould, Hall, Harper, Harrison and Hayes and Volume II includes Holyoake, James, Johnson, Laight, Milward, Morrall, Newhall, Smith, Thomas, Townsend, Turner, Wacker, Welch, Woodfield and Wyers. The goal was to write a short history about each company focusing on the 19th century and wherever possible include examples of advertisements, drawings, photographs, etc. from the Victorian Period related to these companies. Each chapter is divided into three parts: History, Images and Genealogy. The History portion is further subdivided into a Company section and an Owner’s section because no company history would be complete without trying to locate information about the owners. Visits were also made to the original factory locations to see what the areas look like today and photographs of these places are displayed in each chapter’s Images section. Over 800 footnotes are included to document the sources and references used in preparing these histories.
